International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation provides important information about the Hofstra campus, immigration regulations, staying healthy and safe, academic requirements and the many campus services available to help you succeed and have a great experience at Hofstra. During orientation you will have the opportunity to participate in many events, trips, and activities that will prepare you to become a member of the Hofstra community. All new international students must attend each day of this required orientation.

During orientation, you will get your Hofstra ID card which can be used to access the residence halls and your meal plan (if you have purchased a plan). However, we recommend that you bring enough money to cover your daily expenses for the first few days. You may want to bring a debit or credit card for immediate use after your arrival in the U.S., as it is not advisable to carry or keep large amounts of money on your person, in your home or residence hall. We encourage you to review our information on how to prepare for your arrival at www.hofstra.edu/prearrival

We look forward to meeting you at International Student Orientation and if we can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact us at international{at}hofstra.edu!

Spring 2020 International Student Orientation

International Student Orientation for students beginning their program in Spring 2020 will take place from Tuesday, January 21st through Thursday, January 23rd, 2020. Check-in for orientation will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21st in the Multipurpose Room of the Mack Student Center. Detailed information about orientation will be emailed to the Hofstra email address of accepted students who have received their I-20 or DS-2019. Please note that international students are allowed to enter the U.S. no more than 30 days before the program start date listed on their I-20.

International Student Orientation will be followed by Winter Orientation for undergraduate students on Friday, January 24, 2020. Registration for Winter Orientation will open in late November on the Hofstra portal at my.hofstra.edu. You will need your Hofstra ID and password to register. After you register, an email confirmation will be sent to your Hofstra email address within two business days with details on check-in times and location.

Graduate students may also have separate, program-specific activities during this week in addition to International Student Orientation. Schedules will be arranged to allow students to attend all required activities. Graduate students will receive information about any program-specific activities directly from their department or their program's Admission office.

Please schedule your travel to arrive in time to participate in all days of orientation and make appropriate arrangements for transportation from the airport to campus after you arrive in the United States. Please see this page of our website for directions to Hofstra and information about how to get to Hofstra using various modes of public transportation.

Move-in and Housing

The official day for new international students to move into the residence halls is Sunday, January 19th, 2020. If you will be living on campus, you may report directly to your assigned residence hall on Sunday, January 19, 2020 between the hours of 3 p.m to 9 p.m. for move-in. To request a place to live on campus, students must complete a housing application and pay the housing deposit. Questions regarding on-campus housing should be directed to the Office of Residence Life

New international students living off campus do not need to check in anywhere on campus on Sunday, January 19th, 2020 and may go directly to International Student Orientation check-in at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 in the Multipurpose Room of the Mack Student Center. Please note that if you are living off campus or will be arriving earlier than the official move-in date for international students, you are responsible for finding your own accommodation. The Office of Commuting Student Services can provide advice and resources to help you find a place to live off campus. You can contact them at +1-516-463-3469 or commuters{at}hofstra.edu. Information on local hotels near the Hofstra campus can be found on this page.
