Hofstra's health and physical education programs are designed to provide rich learning experiences that will enable students to become highly skilled scholar-practitioners. A variety of undergraduate and graduate professional programs are offered in these areas, and we invite you to become acquainted with faculty, staff, and diverse spectrum of campus facilities and student resources that are available.

MS Health Education
This 33-credits program is an initial/professional certification program in health education that includes two tracks: (1) for candidates who have a teaching certificate in another discipline, or (2) for candidates who do not have a teaching certificate. In both tracks, students will be recommended for initial/professional certification in health education upon successful completion of the course work in the track in which they are enrolled. This graduate program prepares students to teach health education at all grade levels in public and private schools and leads to New York state teacher certification. The curriculum integrates technology and issues of diversity in all course work. This program meets both the New York State Learning Standards for Health Education as well as the standards of the American Association for Health Education (AAHE).

Program Director: Michael Ludwig

MS Physical Education
This 36 to 39-credit program is designed to prepare individuals with or without previous professional education to meet New York state initial teacher certification in grades preschool through 12 physical education. This is a comprehensive program providing course work and field experiences across a variety of school settings. Graduates from this program are eligible for professional certification after two years of successful teaching experience and an approved mentoring relationship as described by the New York State Education Department Regulations.
