Mechatronics Online Certificate Program
for Practicing Engineers

Mechatronics is multidisciplinary systems engineering for the 21st century. This online certificate program is for practicing engineers who want to raise their skill level and a means for companies who want to empower their workforce and achieve a competitive advantage in the global economy. This program is designed to exceed fundamental skills with an integration of rigorous theory and best industry practice. Human-centered, model-based design, grounded in mathematics and physics, is the key.

Twelve one-credit, integrated modules, supported by multidisciplinary case studies, cover the essential areas of mechatronic system design. This online program is designed to be completed in one year (one module per month for 12 months). Standout features of the program include module integration/sequence; live contact through weekly, two-hour, question and answer sessions via the Internet; and monthly half-day, end of module, on-sit summary and laboratory hardware sessions, which students can attend remotely if necessary.

Program Details

  • The Mechatronics Certificate Program is open to full-time practicing engineers.
  • The program is designed to be completed in one year, with an enrollment of 12-18 practicing engineers completing the program as a cohort.
  • The program is completely online. This makes it possible for professionals outside the New York metropolitan area to enroll.
  • There are weekly, two-hour, Q&A Internet sessions, and end-of-module, half-day summary and laboratory hardware sessions. These end-of-module sessions may be completed on the Hofstra campus with other cohort members or remotely.
  • Program prerequisite is a BS or associate degree in engineering or a related field of study with at least three years of industry engineering practice.
  • Integrating case studies may be customized for a particular industry/company.
  • The program consists of 12 one-credit modules taken in a specific order. Each module is a prerequisite for the subsequent module. The modules are:
    • Physical and Mathematical Modeling
    • Electrical Systems & Electronics
    • Mechanical Systems
    • Electro-Magnetic-Mechanical Systems
    • Fluid Systems
    • Thermal Systems
    • Computer Simulation
    • Measurement Systems
    • Sensors for Mechatronics
    • Actuators for Mechatronics
    • Control System Fundamentals
    • Control System Design Implementation
