MA in Creative Arts Therapy Counseling

This graduate program is offered by the Long Island, New York campus of Hofstra University.

The 60 credit Master of Arts in Creative Arts Therapy Counseling program is a 60-credit degree and has been approved by the American Art Therapy Association since 1984.  Graduates of the art therapy program are eligible for licensure in NYS as a Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) and to sit for the Art Therapy Credentials Board Examination (ATCBE).

Our small, intimate class sizes and diverse student body, as well as the didactic and clinical aspects of the program prepare our students for successful careers in art therapy.  The program features new and refined courses in the areas of ethics, diversity, aging and development, career counseling, and experiential learning.

The art therapy curriculum includes lecture and discussion, application of approach and media techniques, and field experiences through practicum and internship. There are also a variety of electives that expose students to a selection of expressive therapies and various populations, including a study abroad experience in Ireland. Students can also choose to take elective courses in related licensure programs while enrolled in the art therapy program.
