Department of Anthropology
The Department of Anthropology at Hofstra University provides students with a broad-based education in human culture, diversity, and civilization. Students are encouraged to explore and participate in myriad field-study programs, including the department's archeological field school.
Professors offer students a view of the world drawn from their own experiences in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America and Central America. For majors and minors, we provide experience outside the classroom that ranges from ethnographic films at the Margaret Mead Film Festival in New York City to visits to a Native American sweat lodge in eastern Long Island. Students have traveled to the annual meetings of the American Anthropological Association and others have received prestigious internships with non-profit social justice organizations.
