Honors Seminar: Barcelona, 2019

Program Description

Hofstra University Honors College is offering a 10-day honors seminar in Barcelona, Spain. Students will enroll in a 3 credit course (HUHC 20A) called “The More Different, the More the Same: The Top 10 Global Problems for Gen Z,” taught by Professor Ellen T. Frisina, associate professor in the Department of Journalism, Media Studies, and Public Relations. The class will examine some of the issues that Spanish college-age students worry about, and analyze if and how those issues also affect American students.  Roundtables with Spanish college students will be an important part of the course.
The class will visit local attractions and engage in activities such as:

  • City orientation, guided walking tour of Plaza Cataluña, Las Ramblas, and the Gothic Quarter, including a tapas tour for dinner, with expert guide
  • Guided Modernism tour of Barcelona to include el Paseo de Gracia, La Sagrada Familia, and Parc Güell
  • Visit to Cava Freixenet, a Spanish wine producer
  • Day trip to  Girona, Figueres and Dali Museum tour, including the Picasso Museum
  • An exploration of El Born and Gracia "hipster" neighborhoods
  • Meeting with Barcelona college students and students from Barcelona Hub of Global Shapers

Program Details

Program Cost
Students will book their own flights to Europe, pay Hofstra tuition for the 3 credit course, and pay a program fee of $2,200 which covers accommodation, meals, visits to local attractions/activities, and insurance. Students will be provided with breakfast and dinner every day in Barcelona, as well as a  welcome dinner and a farewell dinner.
